harald bergmann | germany, 1994 | 90'

the second part of harald bergmann's (b. 1963) hölderlin-suite is an attempt to translate the poet's later writings (from the time directly before his forced internation in a mental institution) into a filmic form; read aloud by actors, contrasted with commenting excerpts from letters by his contemporaries (goethe and schiller, among others)... but most importantly, presenting a form of text we have not so far really focused on in our programme: handwriting - and animated handwriting, at that! all of this is complemented by a rollicking free-jazz-rock score by german saxophone master christian weidner and his five-piece band.
